PROJECT
A fresh visual identity for a retrospective exhibition based on Rei Kawakubo with promotional items to communicate to the intended target market
Colour is an integral part of what ties my poster together and more importantly is a reflection of Rei’s colourful, extravagant style. The colours I used were mainly pink and black, with inspiration taken from her collections with white acting as a contrasting colour for typographical elements. Part of the project was not using photos of the designer or their work in designing the identity of the exhibition.
App function: Users will be able to scan Rei's works in the exhibition and populate a virtual gallery map. Opening each piece would enable users to zoom into the dress and appreciate the intricacy and details of the sewing techniques. This is an innovative way of engaging audiences with the designer at a more intimate level as conventional galleries don't usually allow visitors to touch the artworks or spend as much time as they like appreciating the designer's work.
Target market: This would appeal to individuals with an interest in avant-garde fashion, contemporary art and innovative design such as fashion enthusiasts, fashion/art/design students, fashion industry professionals as well as local or international gallery visitors aged between 21-50.
